Shopping & Shipping Abroad
As an expat I usually go home once a year. During my time in the US I buy all the products I need that I can't find in Kuwait or are cheaper to bring from home. My last summer at home, 2019, I discovered a much more effective way to get the items I needed and wanted without taking up all my luggage space, without having to rely on someone from home to send the items or wait for the summer. I tried out www.MyUS.com and fell in love. I could order from thousands of US retailers and the best part is, it's tax free!
I try to buy local as much as possible to support the local economy but I'm also addicted to Amazon and unfortunately they don't always deliver to Kuwait. I also recently increased my utilization of black owned business and I have a ton of items currently on the way. I'm not returning home Summer 2020 due to the pandemic, COVID-19. However, I am still able to safely get everything I need from home with the help of MyUS.com. Here's how you can shop from the US or anywhere that delivers to the US while you're living abroad.
1. MyUs.com Create your account and get a US address.
Use the link to get a Premium Membership FREE for a whole-year.
2. Shop online as usual, then ship to your MyUS address at checkout.
Take a look at my video to see me unbox the most recent package I have received. I have a few more boxes en route and I'll add as they arrive.
3. Choose from a variety of shipping methods and save with MyUS premier package consolidation.
I usually choose the FedEx shipping option because I can track my package's entire journey. I've learned (the hard way) that all government mail systems are not built equally. The government mail in a lot of places around the world is not as guaranteed as in the US. I'd rather not take the risk of having my packages lost and then going through the hassle of trying to figure out where they are and how I get them to me.
4. Get your goods fast and worry free. Your purchases arrive at MyUS and can be delivered to you in as little as 2-4 days.
Due to the effects of COVID-19 processing and shipping is taking a little longer than usual, I also have experienced that customs is holding the packages a little longer.
